I bought a new S.G. Special in 1967 and it cost $250.00 with a Chipboard Brown Case, a lot more than the price he quotes as $190.00 in 1970. Somehow I just don't believe this Guy. He talks about being sent home from Nam(he was in the Navy) in 1971 because Dow had sold too much Napalm, what a bunch of B.S. The Gov.Military never let any of us go home early unless it was in a body bag... Pete did break alot of S.G. Specials, but like the one guy posted, they were the glued back together ones brought out for the last number. I also noticed he didn't mention anything about the Grovers or the removal of the Vibrato leaving 3 holes in the face of the SG. Has anyone seen the film footage where he sticks his Rose Morris Rick thru his Union Jack covered cabinet. I saw Pete destroy his Guitar at Monterey POP Festival after Jimi destroyed and burnt his Strat. Made me run out and buy an S.G. except I couldn't afford to destroy it.

Wow, very cool. I, too, saw zeppelin in 69 at the Rose Palace in Pasadena. They were the B band to Iron Butterfly and totally blew IB out of the water. Zepplin was new, outrageous, and had the TONE!!! For some reason the new bands just can't do it. No more Who, Zep, Floyd, all gone away with the Beigelander noise level requiremments. That Who concert in 1970 was so loud it went right through you and everyone else. It wasn't a postured MTV style concert, it was raw, wild, in your face and through your body. Not just a concert, a life experiance. The establishment hated the Who. They broke their gear, played loud as can be, and taught people to think instead of just react. We were quite lucky to have been born when we were. Real music, real live music. Gibson never gave Pete any guitars back then, they didn't like him smashing up the guitars, parents hated that too. My folks weren't impressed when I brought the SG home from the concert. They never liked the Who.
I guess I am starting to get old and crotchety...remember the days? I haven't been to a concert in quite awhile. I was going to see the original James Gang, but forgot. That would have been fun. Last of the real bands. I thought things were picking up when Van Halen 1 came out, but Ed followed the money wagon and started using cheap **** guitar that he was paid a bundle to promote. He sounded amazing when he played an LP custom. Anyway, it used to be about the music, now it's all about the money. Not a very wise tradeoff.

What a Bone Head...1st off he knows nothing about EVH and his custom "I put this together from parts,spray paint and tape guitar" Eddie may have followed the alcohol trail, but not the money trail, speaking of money following trails, 30K for a supposed Townshend SG..I still think he's telling tall tales. And I like your story better Bob, after all isn't that what Keith Moon did?
