I don't know, I like very much the mute effect on my Rick, may be I'm faded or something, but I think yes, sometimes it may sound alike an upright. Anyway is a matter of taste. I have to say I never used a ROS thanks for the advices, now I think I don't need it .

I tried the treble pup into the passive input & the bass into the active. It's just not useable with a one channel amp. I could balance the two volumes by lowering the louder one & cranking the amp, but it's not worth the hassle live.
I was also hoping to find a way to incorporate some distortion on the treble signal, but it still sounds scratchy. Not at all what I like.
I find driving the preamp gives a much smoother grind.
Interesting experiment, though.
I like the mute for "Stand By Me". I don't use it much for anything else.

As I said before I used my 4001s muted as I use to play in a Beatle cover band, I think is a very nice sound, anyway I always liked McCartney's style

J Gary, get one you'll never regret it and if you're like most SVT players you'll never use anything else again unless you have to. It's a long story why I ended up with three.
