News Leaked Just Prior To The Genesis Press Conference

After months of speculation, Genesis will finally reunite today at the Mayfair Hotel, Stratton Street, London. They are expected to confirm the rumors of a reunion tour which in it's first leg, will cover Europe.

Tickets:

Tickets for the German shows will go on sale on Friday, 10th November 2006. UK Shows will go on sale on the 24th November 2006. Tickets for other countries are yet to be announced; however, more dates, including North American tour dates, are expected to be announced later.

The line-up, as expected, will be the traditional (late '70s - early '90s) three piece line-up: Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins, joined as usual by Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson.

SACD/DVD Remastered Back Catalog:

They also announced that the SACDs that we have so eagerly awaited will be made available as SACD/DVD double disc sets, remastered with 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo remixes. They will be released in three batches throughout 2007 as follows:

March 2007: A Trick Of The Tail (1976), Wind & Wuthering (1977), …And Then There Were Three…(1978), Duke (1980) Abacab (1981)
June/July 2007: Genesis (1983), Invisible Touch (1986), We Can't Dance (1991), Calling All Stations (1997)
Fall/Winter 2007/Spring 2008: Trespass (1970), Nursery Cryme (1971), Foxtrot (1972), Selling England By The Pound (1973), The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974)

My thought exactly. And I ACTUALLY LIKE about 50% of the stuff post-1980, right up through Calling All Stations. Call me a loser, but I just dig some of those tunes like Shipwrecked, Way of the World, Tell Me Why (great Rick 12 tune), Dividing Line, Home by the Sea 1 & 2...

I only heard one tune off of their last album and I liked it before I found out who it was. During their last tour with the new singer, they were even playing some more classic early stuff. As for the rest of the post Hackett stuff, I like about 50% of it too. I just think they should have changed the name of the band so as not to sully Genesis' reputation.

They really needed Gabriel to make that exciting at all...with just those 3 guys, it's going to be all the pop stuff that I have heard too many times already.

I cannot stomach too many songs after the "Duke" era.

That would make it the "Puke" era.

That news makes all the more glad I saw The Musical Box!

I am more interested in seeing them than the original three. I guess there isn't a chance to see the Musical Box anymore.

Wow, Duke. Am I the only one who thought that was a decent album? You never see anything about it, or hear songs off of it either (not counting Misunderstanding and Turn It On Again - tipping the scale over to the "Puke" period). Most of the album is still Genesis prog (you can almost hear Gabriel sing "Heathaze") - Cul De Sac, Man of Our Times, and Duchess. And then there is Please Don't Ask, kinda just hanging there, a Phil solo castout?

Gabriel-era Genesis (and "A Trick of the Tail" and "Wind & Wuthering") is one of my favorite bands ever. They made "Selling England By the Pound" and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", which I consider to be two of the greatest pieces of music ever in the history of the universe.

Despite this, I absolutely the love "Abacab", "Invisible Touch" albums, and so on. "Dodo/Lurker", "Abacab", "Mama", "Land of Confusion" . . . some of that stuff is incredibly good. Granted there is some more boring or less inspired music, but it's still good. It helps to think of "Duke" and onwards as being made by a different band that just happened to be called Genesis. Even so, it proved that Collins, Rutherford and Banks could write great music in plenty of different genres.

While I'll never take any of it over "Selling England . . ." or "Lamb", there's something to be said for '80s Genesis, I think.

Ya...now go listen to Watcher of the Skies or Dancing With the Moonlit Knight and see if you don't get this kinda sad feeling about where the band ended up.

But the great part is there is all the pre "Puke" era of music.

I remember seeing Genesis on Ed Sullivan way back when, my parents freaking, and I thought it was really great, realizing this was really different and where things would go. And I zeroed in on the bass player and his instrument because of the sound!

Ahhh, Gabriel-era Genesis, ATOTT, W&W, SEBTP, and Lamb... desert island music...

Maybe there's a future for Phil Collins in the fire escape trade.
