He sees 22 because he's still hallucinating from when he did that to his 4001.

Look closer, there's two frets mounted to the bridge cover.

I almost feel like getting it to restore it, but I'm sure it will go for a ridiculous amount of $. Then I be looking for an output jackplate and who knows how long it would take to find one.

It looks like a Floyd Rose or Kahler type of whammy bridge. Lots of routing underneath.
I wouldn't even do that to a Fender (a Squier maybe).
Plus five minus five!

What a freakn' mess! That would figure to be a post '76 4001. The narrow truss spacing at the body end is particular to '77 to '80 4001s.

The guy (who ever owned it) didn't even know how to properly install strings on his bass...and spared no expense on those machine heads! :-P
