Both pick and finger have their uses, dependant on song and sound desired.

I also have large hands, and the pinkie is usable for me. Chris has very large hands, and he uses 4 digits at least. He can fret the E with this thumb! I also believe he uses his pinkie - try Long Distance Runaround without the pinkie...

I can use my pinkie, just don't. No idea why. I understand Squire does use his. Playing the opening riff from Close to the Edge is impossible without it. It just seems to me that he avoids it when he can. Like what a previous poster said about seeing him play all of Hold Out Your Hand without ever using his pinkie.

My pinkie and ring finger are almost interchangable.

Most of the time I play with fingers, but now that I have this '72, it screams "pick" to me. It just sounds so much better with one.

Jim,

I can't get over the sound I'm getting through my amp with the toaster and a pick!
It seems so much more alive than the toasters in my V's.

Pure Heaven!

That it is ... the v63's are also very very nice till my favourite playing Ric !!

What are you playing her through, in my case it's a Ampeg B-25 and a Avatar 4x12.

Ampeg B2RE with 2X10 & 1X15 and a line 6 Pod for some compression.

I only use 50% neck pup and full-on bridge pup on my 4003, but I was wondering how it would sound with a toaster in the neck position?

Nice rig. I got a B2-RE and a Fender Bassman 2x15 and I'm very happy with it. I just love the Ampeg tone.

In respect of playing with a pick, I used to loose mine 3 or 4 times every rehearsal. Well, I'm just a little too absent minded for using picks, I guess. :-} So I started to play with fingers, haven't yet lost one of those...
