The only Alembic I've ever played was a 4-str bass. And it was COOL.

Here's another really great A/B comparison that was posted on the RIC website forum, by forum member Brizilla. He uses a 620/12 that has high gains, then switches out the pickups for toasters. The difference will amaze you! Here's the link to the forum page:

And here's the link to the sound file:

Jason that was very informative. The 370 had a decided edge in recreating the Byrds sound IMO.
The hi-gains sounded a bit edgier.
Great playing too Jdog.
I love the sound of the Jangle Box. Steve! Based on what I just listened to you should be awfully proud of that pedal.

Thanks for the link Kris. There is a huge difference in the sound after the swap took place.

Sorry John, I just wanted to show off that I can actually spell Alembic.
I happen to hear one of their Series 12's, which allows one to split the pups similar to Rick O Sound. Very nice sound. Only problem is they cost as much as a Lemmy.

Are all these with all pickups on full?
The high gains sound like they have no middle to me, with a sharper top end. I prefer the toasters, a more balanced sound across the spectrum.
I wonder how much of the difference could be dialed out by amplifier EQ settings?
Thanks for the demo!

Very nice work J Dog and it is good to hear your voice which adds another dimension to your personality shown here.
I suspect that this riff inspired McGuinn on She Don't Care About Time.
I like the tonality of the 360/12V64 guitar best.

I spoke to J briefly on the phone last night, he told me these were recorded into the Janglebox, then a preamp (forget which one!), into Mbox. Recorded with all pickups on full. He may be doing a similar thing with the bridge pickups soon, as I for one use the bridge pickup almost 100% exclusively on my 660/12.

The preamp is a Focusrite Trakmaster. Great mono pre for the price.
EDIT: Plus, I did a slight bass roll-off across all three, just to make it sound a little friendlier. And all pickups were full on, with the 5th knob right in the middle.

Thanks, Jason, that was a great comparison. (As was that other link to "toasties.wav".
Of course, now I HAVE to go learn "Jesu", darn you!

Thanks Jason! Much appreciated.
Also vote for either the 12V64 or the 370. The Higains just don't make it for this type of stuff.
Also agree that any Byrd-like stuff I only use the bridge P/Us.

PS: I can't play the Toasties file. Says I don't have the PCM Converter CODEC. Says web link will lead me to DL file. Nope.
And MS says all CODECS are installed in Media Palyer by default.
OK . . . . .

J Dog Ñ I just got to the link this morning. Outstanding playing! Great clips and a terrific comparison. As soon as I can get cleared out from all the JB stuff I'm dealing now with, I'll be in touch.
