I don't know- I'm not so elitist with my Ricks. I like my '54 Fender Single Coil Precision reissue every bit as much as my Ricks. They Ricks ARE special though not doubt about it.

I agree. I think we're such a kind of Hofnerbacker players. The perfect pair indeed

I love my ric, no way could it be my only bass tho.
Every bassist needs a P bass, and probly a J too. Its just one of those things you have to have. So is a ric tho.
Dave, id have to take the ric over the 54 reissue. Bassically because i dont like the bridge on my P bass. Its okay, just not in love with it. Still, if i had to pick any P that'd be it.
I like active basses and I think ill probly tend to gig with them more then anything else. Then again, who knows because im not really gigging yet.
Gotta have some recordings with the good old ric tho.

I used to have Jazz and Precision basses. I did prefer the P-bass, but after I got my Rick the others were redundant. I thought they should go to a loving home.

I had a P-bass, a Jazz, a Carvin, and a Hofner-esque Jay Turser. Then I bought a 4003 at a music store.......The Turser and the P bass are gone, the Carvin is taken apart and stripped down for a refin and the Jazz is rarely getting any attention at all. All Rickenbacker all the time.

I played my '65 Jazz Bass for 15 years before getting my first V63. Since then the Jazz doesn't get played out anymore! The Rick has the sound that I'd been trying to get all these years.
I do believe a guy should have a variety though! Someday I'd like to get a Hofner '63 reissue and a nice P-Bass.

It's funny, I've always felt self conscious about being so much into Ricks that I forced myself to branch out when it became time to get a back up bass.
So I got the Fender ('71 Tele bass), but it couldn't cut through the mix well enough, so I traded for a different Fender ('90's P bass, later added a J pup near the bridge), which was better, but still not quite good enough.
Now I have no Fenders & three Ricks, and eagerly wanting more.
Fenders are fine, but I guess I'm a Rick guy through & through, (as far as basses are concerned), no apologies!
