Devo changed their name and are now a surf band. Really.

I never got into to Metallica, but the snippets I might have heard sounded good (for that genre). Then one night I saw them on an awards show. It had closed captioning. The lyrics seemed to have been written by a 12 year old.

I used to like Devo, the first time I saw them was on Saturday Night around 1977 I think, they did Satisfaction, and I thought what the h&ll is this? This was before all the cone head stuff (I'm pretty sure) they were just a strange band doing the antithesis (sp?) of Satisfaction.

Devo changed their name? I saw them at the Rat in Boston when Eno was producing them. I thought they were great. But not as great as he Residents.

Hi Brian,
I opened for The Real Kids at The Rat in 1976, they were the first punk band I ever saw, they used old KLH hifi speakers for a PA. I didn't know what to think but I felt my band was awfully old fashioned all of a sudden. (Something is happening here and you don't know what it is, do you Mr. Jones)
I am in Lima PerĂº and was at a mall where they sell mostly CD's and saw a live at The Rat CD by them. They also had another one, a studio disc with "All Kindsa Girls" on it.
Did you live in Boston? I grew up near Worcester.
Do you remember The Neighborhoods?

Hi Bob,
What a trip! I played at the Rat twice in 1977/8. Willie Alexander is a god to me. This is very cool. The Neighborhoods were the best band Willie ever played with. I went to their house once. We should talk more. I now live in Portland. Oregon. I grew up in Springfield so I really appreciated Boston. Long live Kenmore Square and go Pats. Brian

Sorry for the thread hijack, but ...

Devo's surf thing was a one-off. They still play out as Devo from time to time (saw them outdoors in SF about a year ago).

And yeah, the Real Kids were (and sometimes still are) a great band (although one might argue that they're more "power pop" ala Plimsouls / Flamin' Groovies / Shoes / etc. than "punk" ala Ramones / Dead Boys / Weirdos / Dead Kennedys / etc. but that's splitting hairs)! John Felice played (and is pictured with) a Ric on many of their records, although he was playing a F----r when they came through a couple years ago. But man, I wish I could write a song as good as "All Kindsa Girls"!

Anybody ever see Devo as 'Dove'?
