Wood that good needs to be left as is. An aged amber MG would make that birdseye look spectacular.

Andrew, I agree but what about the patches on the front?

A reverse burst? Um, ew.

I think a dark transparent Burgundy is the way to go on this one. It'll obscure the patches for the most part, while still show the beautiful birdseye back.

Unless Kenny wants to try something new altogether on this bass.

Like I said before.... A transparent marble color.

I've never seen a guitar with a reverse-burst, but my initial reaction to that is, well, ewww.

A trans color is in the works. Stay tuned!

Watch the anticipation boil! This will be bigger than when everyone was waiting for Melissa's purplethang 330! BwuhHAHAHAHA

P.S. Here is a related thread.

The fit and grain is a very good match on this, if it were me I'd do a transparent Burgandyglo or better yet a Dark Amber Fireglo. Some of the patches will be covered by the pick guard.

There was some major wood work done here around the guitar side bridge. I cannot see that work thru this finish.

Good Q about the front Edgar...I forgot about that!

I don't know...I'd have to defer to a higher authority on that one. It is killer birdseye though, and you don't seem to see much of that type of wood anymore on Rics.

My 64 RM1999 has a neck that's similar and is a really cool aqua green colour that shows it off wonderfully...

Not that I'm advocating Kenny turn green tho'... Image
