I'd go for the "V" too!
What color is it?

I guess I'm the only person here that would take the '74 4001 over the newer V63. I have a '71 and a '79 4001. I prefer the neck on both to a V63. I don;t have any issue with the sound either. Both are cap modded with the new push/pull tone pot. What can I say, I just love the classics. The older the better. There's just something about nicely aged wood.
Here's the '79 4001 just to balance all those pictures of V63s. The '74 is getting a refurb right now from Paul W.
mmmmmm, checkerboard. You don't get that with a V63

Mind you, you didn't get it with a 79 either, but you can retrofit it.

Thanks Jared. Its sorta like Paul's bass in John's colors!

Nice '79, Gareth. I also would prefer the neck on a 70's Rick to a V63. But the body on a V63 is a lot more comfortable so they cancel each other out (?)
Your '79 must sound sweet with that horseshoe.

Gareth, I just said to take the V63 so I could get the 74.

To paraphrase Jared, get them both and keep 'em!
I won't part with either my '73 4001 or '98 4001V63.

I have a fireglo v63 which was set up by Mark Arnquist(a dirty word to some). While I could use the money, and I don't really play it....I can't get myself to part with it. The bass is awesome, in sound, look, and playability...

Arnquist does know his stuff. I would imagine that's one of the best set up basses out there.
Nice bass/pic Scott...

I think so Andrew. He also set up my 73 sea green project. No one has been able to get that bass right but him. Sounds, plays, feels awesome now...
