Excuse the ignorance, but are their production differences in the years?

I am not sure.

In general, the necks got larger in profile and pegheads got shorter, mid to late '90s. Give or take.
Issues for some people, but not for others.

Still a sweet looking bass!

Headstock change was sometime in late '97 or early '98 I think.

Do you know what was different with the headstock?

The headstock was shortened about 1/2 inch or so. You can tell by looking at them as the TRC remained the same length. On the later ones the TRC's tip comes almost all the way to the end of the headstock. The shape was also changed slightly to look less like a real 60's headstock.

Its hard to tell in this photo, but its the only one I have with a side-by-side comparison.

Ted's V63JG (left) is a '94 and has the longer headstock. The other two are '98's and have the shorter headstock.

Here's a rather poor picture of the peghead on my '93 MG. Notice how much more wood is past the TRC tip.
