So Dad's a Beatles fan, huh? Looks like he tried pretty hard to make it look like Paul's.

Sweet bass. A Jan '77 4001S is gonna have a nice, comfy neck, and some great tone to go along with that sleek, contoured body. That's why he played it 'till he wore the finish off the neck. If it needs new frets or a re-fin send it to Dale Fortune. He used to work at RIC in the 70's and knows how to treat a Rick right!

Yes indeed your Dad has a very nice 4001S. IMO the finish on it looks good and I wouldn't redo it, it has that nice aged look about it that you only get after years of playing...

Robert, then I snagged one you would have liked - a 1982 4001s azureglo. It has a set neck but the action is so good, and it has the absolute look & feel of a vintage RicK. The headstock on my 4001s, Jon, BTW, is identical is shape and style to yor Dad's bass, with the deeper cut in the hook and key spacing.

It's definitely a real 4001S.
