Still it scares me what it will do to my bass in the future. I used to use elixer mediums, and now D'Addario chromes 50. I have a small gap between my tailpiece and my body..... It makes me a bit nervous.

Like I said before I have never seen a real Ric tailpiece bend that badly from just 4 strings ... many 4001/4003 basses have no lift and many have very small amounts of lift ... it is quite rare that this developes into a functional problem ... most of the time it is an aesthetic problem ... and like I said before I don't mind the look of 2 extra screws ... for me it looks better than the pullup ...

And remember, as has been pointed out already, there were only three screws holding the fake piece down.
Poor design, not a good or thorough copy of the RIC piece at all.
