Thanks for posting the link, John. I've recently updated all my 4001 and 4003 wiring diagrams.

Thank you John, I will search for a mistake in the wiring of my bass with this diagram again. Can you check the tone pot actions on your 4001/3 for comparison. I just seriously doubt any mistake in my bass, specially as I checked that one in the shop as well (same tone pot action characteristics).

Each tone pot only affects the pup it is supposed to control - only a TINY bit of interaction. I expect you to find a wire (or 2) in the wrong place.

Dear John, after confirming the correctness of the circuits with that diagram also http://www.joeysbassnotes.com/TipsPics/4001%20wiring.pdf and of course with the original Rick diagram and additionally Jeff Rath send me some pics and...

THERE IS NO MISTAKE! The electronics of all my basses work like I always described: In the middle position of the PU switch either tone pot(Bass or Treble)is effective on both PUs simultaneously and hence the total tone sound. The influence initially is most strong on the individual PU of the used tone pot, but if you close one of them totally ALL TREBLE IS GONE!!!

THAT MUST BE A REGULAR FEATURE OF THE 4001 CIRCUIT!!! Does anybody check with his bass??? Please!!!

Should I call JH for help???

On my 4003 it is only reacting on the pup it is wired to. Of course you do get some interactive behaviour, but the two work seperate on my bass. It is of course not active so it interacts a bit.

Na mein Freund, ich wünsch dir ein gutes Abend und glück mit dass finden von den Fehler!!!

(Translation "well my friend, I wish you a good night and luck with finding the malfunction")

Hi Robin,
Du hast recht (you're right),
of course they also act individually on each pup, but the interaction comes when you close one of the tone pots about 3/4 of their action.
So, the search goes on...
