Much more amazing was losing it...

My favorite was the original 7 minute version of Cold Sweat, can't get a better groove than in that song. 7 minutes and it still ended too soon.

Another giant is gone.
No matter what style of music we all prefer, most of it's been affected by his work in some way.

His are, IMHO, some of the best records ever made.
As a kid, "I Got You", "Please, Please, Please" and "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag", among others, enthralled and frightened me. Those were take no prisoners grooves, and not too many others have captured such realism and layed it down on tape.
RIP, James Brown.

James dying on Christmas was indeed a bit of a shock...next came Gerald Ford, and I found myself pondering the old superstition that famous deaths occur in groups of three. Who would be the third, I wondered? Then, at 8 pm MST last night came the answer: Saddam Hussein, "The Hardest Working Tyrant in Government Business". I understand he was very tough and demanding to work for, and quite elusive when being pursued by the Authorities...he and James are definitely tied for "Worst Bad-Hair-Day Mug Shot"...

So there you have it: James, Jerry and Saddam, sitting together in the Waiting Room Of The Afterlife...

James: "I feel good!"

Saddam: "Death To America!"

Jerry: "Watch out for that last step, it's a doozy!"
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Good thing Bobby Murcer didn't die, or there goes that hoary old superstition.
How much!?!
