For myself...
American Deluxe HSS
Gave my nephews (in their early 20s} an Ibanez Artcore hollowbody and a Mexican Strat -- each with matching Vox 5 Watters and sundry accessories.

I agree, Peter and Kevin, but before you get too excited, it's an Epiphone. However, I must say that the build quality is excellent and it sounds absolutely fantastic!
We've put gold Schaller strap locks on it and we're thinking of changing the speedknobs from black to gold. Any thoughts on that idea?

I think you will find that it is much louder with the gold knobs on, H.

Couldn't you just make a louder knob and make "10" the loudest?

My daughter (eleven) is very interested in music. It is a thrill to see her learn new things and we now have a secret "language" we can talk together in.
I wish my parents had started me in music at such an early age. (Instead of middle-age is when I did begin.)
We didn't get her anything special for Chanukah, but we did buy her an (expensive) violin and she takes private lessons. But it is a very difficult instrument and she seems to have a natural gift for the piano so I wish she'd switch to that.
Congtrats Aitch on your new Martin. I have a Martin "X" also, the 12-string and for the money it is a great guitar. Love that permamond, stratabond, what ever it's called neck. I know it's just a fancy term for laminate or plywood but it just looks soooo cool. [GE Smith admired it too when he played mine.]

In the case of my nephews, both are quite musical what with years of piano and school band. Guitars were just the next logical step.
They're thrilled apparently.
