"Usually, the best playing basses are those old babies with plenty of "worn in" (as opposed to worn out) mojo..."

That's why I bet this one kicks ***... (click the "more images" tab)

"Of course when you find a museum piece you can't really trash it either..."

That's why I'm glad my Shadow has a few light scratches. I'm not afraid to put the first ding in it, and I get to actually play this wonderful instrument.

That second one has been up before, hasn't it? Love the knob configuration.

"Come on you guys both of these basses are salvagable, all you need to do is replace the tuners, the pickups and pickguards and there you go, two legit ricks."

Umm, Wouter, true except for that huge hole on the back of the one, which would have to be filled with something. I nominate "Bondo".

It would be in keeping with the spirit of the rest of the customization.

I hope the first (the black one) one does not go to high because it's a great choice for a Ric project I have in mind.

NAAAH, don't you see that that hole in the back actually might come in handy, you don't have to take the strings and pickguard off to work on the electronics.

That is always a big pain with Rick basses and Fender style guitars that you have to take them apart just to substitute a pot.

Isn't that last one Dave linked to a Rickenfaker? Walnut stripe is very wide and the TRC looks handmade. Maple showing doesn't look RICish either.

No, it's a 73 that was body painted....I asked the seller on the 78 black one if he would like to trade...I could do WONDERS with that bass but he said that since he had bids he was going to let it run its course..

I thought this was a fake at first sight.

I would have to think that cutting a hole all the way through your bass is going to mess with the nice tone you get from a Ric.

Inspiration for a new word: bassinine.

The inlays look wierd also and the TRC looks handmade. I sure would like a look under it.

the inlays are pearl end-to-end...at least that's what they LOOK like. if the TRC is flat, then it is plexi also correct for a 73...

Are you talking about the "77" that Dave linked to? It really is a '72. It has a June 1972 (LF 514) jack plate, full width crushed pearl inlays and checkerboard binding. And the TRC looks like a legit Plexi type, correct for a '72.
