Mines unfinished. I did rub a little tung oil into it to bring out the grain. It was very "chalky" looking.

Congrats John, that's a nice Cii. I have also been in love with the way that maple/walnut sandwich looks and when you finally "get" what the 4004 series is about it really opens your eyes and, I afraid, creates intolerable amounts of gas for more. I love the toasters in my Cii and was skeptical about liking the hb's in my Laredo, what I've discovered is the amp really makes the difference in bringing out their sound.
I just started playing the hb's through a Littlemark II and the clarity and fidelity of the amp really brings out the growly nature of the pups, even more so now that I'm running it through an Epifani UL 112. And those hb's are really hot, I can hear the difference when I switch between the toaters and the hb's.

John, was the bass made in 2003? My 4004cii has the same pickup placement, finished fretboard, & maple headstock wings.

Mark/Jeff, is the MG 4004 a Laredo or a Cheyenne? The wood is definitley pretty enough to be a Cii.
How about the pickup placement with the neck pickup away from the fretboard edge - when did that start and when did it end?

The Laredo does not have the maple/walnut/maple sandwich construction.

Every mapleglo 4004 I've seen has been a Cheyenne, the Laredos have almost always been solid colors with the exception of some bursts like fireglo, monty brown, blueburst. The Laredos don't have the sandwich and the wood is generally less figured so that could be why.
Not sure about the pup placement dates but they started out near the neck, then from around 2000-2003 they moved away from the neck and are now back at the neck. RIC moved them back to help access the body end truss rod nuts. Owners of pup off the neck models would have to have routing done to access the rods, I'm glad the routing was done on mine as I've had to pull my rods and straighten them one time already.
