I have always wanted a 381 but he who hesitates is lost.
Nevertheless when compared to the prices of some Gibsons which may well have lower quality, we can't complain too much

I've always found great deals on all my Rick basses, new and used. If you shop around and do your homework, you can find great deals.
I expected the increase. Its due, and still a superior instrument for the money.

If you're ready to take the plunge, the increase won't stop you. Rickenbackers are a tremendous value.

The man's gotta do what he's gotta do.
Sure, none of likes a price increase, but if it keeps the machines oiled and running well here at home, so be it.
Alembic has had three (if I recall correctly) increases in two years just due to the cost of materials alone.
They use Ebony for the majority of their fingerboards, I've heard ebony is only one example of costs that have skyrocketed! Not to mention insurance, utilities, etc, etc.....

Price increase, Okay. But dang it, I was planning on ordering a 1996. But the DCM and a Paul W. acoustic have put my funds in slow motion (I'm happy in these instances).
There goes that boat without me!

Managing a large shop in the same area as Ric, I know the price increase is the proper move - but the player/buyer in me winces.

John, Tony
I was up in NYC last weekend and Rudy's had a 1996 in the window--I didn't check the price.

Based on my experience with Rudy's, it was probably "too much".

Maybe not if they aren't producing them anymore. You can get one brand new with a factory warranty. I guess it depends on how much you want one.

Looks like the Zoo has one too--I've purchased several items from these guys and have always been treated very well--ask for Mark.

Perhaps some stores have several on order. I'm sure those are yet to be made, eh?

I am assuming the 1996 was discontinued because it was only made in AFG and AFG was discontinued at the end of 2006.
Or was there a different reason for discontinuing the 1996?

Perhaps AFG and the 1996 were simply 75th Anniversary treats and nothing more.

We said all along that the 1996 was going to be a 2006 only thing- not tied to the color at all, but that'd be a good reason too, I suppose.
