i played in a folk choir in our catholic church..........i was happy to plug in my 12 string martin and finger-pick that awful music written for organ.......transposed and played my way of course............but the choir director had no male vocalists and asked me to play bass to give em some bottom end to go with the choir...........so i hand the 12 string to a more than capable guy who was playing six string beside me,....and he handed his six to another member who could play rhythm...and me and my 4002 took our place with the choir...........they basically took the vocal bass lines and had me play those..............it was a great experience, and most definitely changed the way i play..........
it was the first time ever around here they heard a bass guitar play a psalm.........but with the 12 finger pickin, a six string rhythm and the bass punching up the altos........it worked out great..........i'd recommend to anybody, if ya get a chance to play in a church,....do so........the experience of playing on the altar just behind the priest with keeping in mind yer not playing a show, you're playing songs of praise that are integrated with the mass,........having the congregation facing you.......all blood cold sober {as opposed to the crowds we normally play for}, having no electronics to cover yer mistakes, and being able to hear a pin drop......will all combine to make u a much more meticulous player.........very little room for error........

I've always thought that in a funny little way, Rickenbackers ARE churches! They certainly inspire me....

Yeah! "Why should the devil have all the good music"?
Does that ring any bells?

LOL....the only reason the devil has good music is because those of us who are gifted (you all know who you are!!!

) have chosen to follow that instead of God's leading in music

It's all God's music. However, the Devil is an apt lyricist at times!

Haha I was wondering if anyone other than me used Ricks in church. Although my Fender fretless sounds better on most of the music (that mellow crud puts me to sleep) I just like giving the Rick that much more play time.

As I only have 2 Ricks currently (electric circuit problems still not solved with the 4003, but the VVT moded 4004Cii works perfect) and a 5string Squire-Protone5 with EMG electronics, I mainly play the Ricks at church services, once in a while a bit too loud (the techs usually complaint)!

However, I love to play a Rick for the glory to God!
