Jake,
Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your first Ric. I'd say wait at least a day after you receive it, and possibly a second if it's really cold.

Bob,
How the devils are you, long time speak no.

Congratulations Jake! My first Ric was a '70s autumnglo too. I went in and played it in a store (Cambridge Music in Porter Sq.), and like you couldn't get it out of my mind! I even took a picture of it in the window:

...and went back and bought it the next day! Still one of my all-time favorite basses.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome ... it feels great to own a real one, finally. I'll definitely post some more pics once I get it (and wait the requisite day or two if I can!). I'm also curious to play with the capacitor bypass option to see how it sounds (it has the 4003-style push-pull pot installed).

Now I need to practice so I can do this thing justice with my playing.

black binding?

BINGO John!

Strange, huh?

Purchased from the original owner. She was a surprise gift from the Mrs. Damn, I under estimated her! She knew I was looking for an Autumn Glo, and she found this beauty!

I thought about replacing the white binding for a moment, but after hearing Dale's input that it is probably original, I've decided to leave it alone.

ha - beat me by a few seconds John. my white '75 4001 is bound the same way (white on neck, black on body).

Hey Bryce,

Really, how cool is that? I've NEVER heard of this before! Anyone else?

Bryce, if you get a chance, could you post a pic of your 75? Mine is a 1981. That is strange. I wonder if it was done intentionally and just how many are out there are like this???

hey Tony, unfortunately it is disassembled at the moment as i'm trying to work the issues out of it. pity, as white is the 'COW'.

i'll definitely post pics when it is back together.

this gbase listing is the same (year and binding). looks like that may have been the standard.

Thanks Bryce,

I hope you get the issues solved quickly.

Thanks too for the link. That is amazing. I've never heard of this anywhere on the forum before.

You learn something new every day!

yeah,it's funny. just today i was looking at the bass and wondering why they didn't use black binding on the neck; then this thread brings up the same issue.
