I have found that running pretty much anything through the effects loop is not as good as plugging straight into the front of the amp ...

Damn straight, I've had three different amps since I bought my RBI and it always ended up in front, it definitely adds something that I can't seem to live without.

How do you set your gain stages Mark? I've always set my post gain on my amplifier anywhere from 12 to 3 o'clock, and then turned up my pre gain until the "clip" light started to blink, then backed the pre gain off a bit. OK? no problem,,, Now I have the Sansamp running through the front. How do I set the "level" for optimum effect?
Sorry for my ingnorance, but Im a completely self taught musician. Im getting great tones right now, but I just want to have it set up for the optimum effeciency.

Scott, the level control is described in the manual as "controlling the 1/4 output" so that's all it does, no secret other mysterious functions there. What I do is set the gain on my amp with the RBI level at 12:00(halfway) with my hottest instrument, in this case being the hb equipped Laredo. Then when you switch to a weaker instrument you can boost the RBI level to match and not have to mess with the gain.
