Jeff - What size venue are we talking about? Maybe that is where I am having the disconnect.

I have done church gigs with a small pa and I used my pod and it worked great ... and I have done bar gigs with the full band and the pa ... and outdoor parties with like 50 people and the pa worked great ... even on small gigs it still helps to have the pa also do more than just vocals ...
I must admit I do like the sound of a good bass amp ...

Try the Mark Bass range (it is covered in other threads) - powerful, great sound & incredibly light! I have the CMD 102P - 400 watts and only 44lb !

+1 on the Mark Bass stuff. I have one of their S450 heads that is about to enter its third year of trouble-free performance and big sound. For small gigs, I use it with a Bag End S15-D and add an EA 2x10" for bigger gigs (my 4001 really sings through the big rig!).
But as portable as the above rig is, I suspect my next amp purchase might be Mark Bass's mini combo -- 300 watts into a single 12 with an ext cab out (8 ohms) that raises the price of poker to 500 watts. All in a 29 lb package that is very reasonably priced, IMO.

They're both equipment manufacturers
EA-Euphonic Audio make Amps, and
Bag End make great Sub-woofers.
Bag End's also the home of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, in Hobbiton, but I suspect you mean the other one.

Another +1 on the Markbass stuff, the Little Mark 2 is 500 watts and 6lbs. If you rack mount it in a 7lb three space with a 4lb RBI you're looking at about 17lbs for a package that's light, powerful and protected. I'm using mine with an Epifani UL112 that weighs 29lbs.

I have a Carvin RL210 cab and a GK 700RB II, 480 watts into 4 Ohms. I'm following Marks footsteps and just purchased a Sansamp RBI to play around with.
I also have an Ampeg BSE410HLF for bigger venues, but seeing how I'm not playing live right now, smaller is better.
I figure I could take the RBI straight into the studio if neccessary.
I'm also looking at the Avatar 210 cabs. ( I love the red tolex ).

The Eden WTX-260 is 260W (300 in Europe) and weighs 3.8lbs. It's a half rack so you could mount 2 side by side for stereo & still be under 8 lbs.
