Sheena,
I don't know what others are saying but what I'm saying is ...
The name of the Youtube clip is confusing.
It says "Doyle Dykes."
That kid is not Doyle Dykes.
Doyle Dykes is a real-life adult guitar player and an endorser of Martin guitars.
Here is his web's site:
http://www.doyledykes.com/
All those comments beneath the video screen that say "wow, that kid is great," I think are actually hearing one of Dykes CDs.
That kid is playing along with the record. And the kid does seem to be pretty good. But it is hard to hear what the kid is playing. What I think people are mostly hearing is the CD that is being played.
Just a thought.
Make sense?

I dunno, Mark, but i'm pretty sure that what we've got here is that kid playing guitar. Yes, i've tried to learn that piece, too (didn't really succeed
), and i'm 99,9 % sure he's really playing it. As far as the initial clip is concerned, i can hear some mistakes/unclear sounds/"lapses" around minute two (a bit earlier), and i can see the kid having small troubles, so personally i'd bet it's him playing, not the record.

They both look fake to me. At 1:01 of "The Entertainer" there is a pretty serious tell. You don't see him fret the high A and A#'s leading to the bridge.
My UNeducated guess is that he recorded the pieces, possibly with one or two tracks (bass line then melody or vice versa) then recorded the video separately.

This took me through a wide range of emotions - laughter to tears. What a wonderful recording, such a lovely touch. A study in creativity.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Um... well... so... mmm... can anybody tell if this one is real or pre-recorded?!

Sheena: I believe that this young man is actually playing. He has his acoustic on a delay and sustain circuit but from other clips online from him, he is playing in my view.

The kid is for real. Look at his finger placements and hand motions. TOTAL confidence and self-assurance.

I think the synching has more to do with the viewer's computer's ability to deal with the data...on my old Apple G3, things were so far out of synch, it was useless to watch anything on YouTube.
A new G5 fixed that.
My two office computers--a Win and a Mac--each deal with YouTube at different rates, too. The new Dell is in synch, the old G4 is a bit off.

That youngster makes it look much, MUCH too effortless. He needs to work on his facial expressions...
