Anyone care to comment on Elixers? The high tech coated ones that supposedly last a really long time? I've been saving up to buy a couple sets for my Ricks (Rotos too harsh for my frets!) but don't know much about them other than what I've heard others say (mostly great reviews).

I used to always use rotosound strings. The last two RICs I purchased came with RIC strings and I like them much better than Rotosound. I also took other forum members advise and bought a set of Labella strings. Now these two brands are my favorites! I want to try pyramids someday.

I think RIC strings are GHS secretly, someone told me that once. - and i have read it in the archives here

Marc, it appears that you may have bought Mr. and Mrs. Breitsprche's 4001V63JG. They are also forum members here. If this is true, then you and I are the only two on this forum with this color! Jeff, I was able to compare the Line6 with the Sansamp since I now own both. Believe it or not, the Line6 Ampeg SVT setting sounds much fuller than that of the Sansamp's. I havn't decided if I'm going to buy the Bass Pod XT yet. I hear the floorboard isn't compatible.

Dan-- That is not correct. Melissa Breitsprecher still has her Jetglo 4001V63. I tried to coax her out of it but she wisely said no. There is no doubt I would've (and could've) bought the one Marc just got on eBay, but I had already committed to purchase the Mapleglo model that was recently up for sale over at the Vox Talks forum. Melissa's husband saw the Jetglo Marc got and immediately e-mailed me an alert. It was still available when I went over there, but I had to let it pass by. Very disappointing..........

I used to use Elixirs. I really liked them and they last an incredibly long time. My tastes have changed and I like a darker string now though. I believe I still have a couple of sets of brand new Elixirs. They run around $40 ( I think) new. If you are interested drop me an e-mail. I'll sell you a couple of sets for much, much less.

Hey Jeffery, yeah I read the guy's post who bought the bass and he said both husband and wife were very upset to see it go. I immediately thought of the Breitsprechers and that it could possibly be their bass he purchased. I'm sorry to hear that you had to let this one slip by, but a Mapleglo is very cool in it's own rite! If you should decide to refinish in Jetglo, this is the perfect bass to do it to!

By the way, what year is your V63?

Dan-- The 4001V63 Mapleglo was made in 1998. I'm buying from the original owner who ordered it through Guitar Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He gave specific orders that no one at the store was to open the package when it was finally delivered. They called him when it arrived and he was the only one who laid hands on it. The bass is supposed to be in near mint condition with no scratches, scrapes, scuffs or other marks anywhere on the instrument. The only reason he's selling it is because he recently got a 4001C64S in Mapleglo and saw no reason to hang on to the 4001V63. (He's a huge Paul McCartney fan.)

Don't get me wrong-- Mapleglo is my all-time favorite Ric finish, so it's not as though I'm getting something I really don't like. But my very first Ric (which I still have) is a standard 4003 in Mapleglo and I just wanted some variety in my little collection. My other Ric bass is a 4004 Cheyenne series I. Two of my three Ric guitars are in Fireglo; the other is a recently acquired used 650 Dakota.

I would consider a straight-up "like-for-like" trade of my 4001V63 Mapleglo for one in Jetglo, but it will likely be extremely difficult to find a Jetglo owner willing to do that. And I would never refinish a Ric to another color unless it was a beater, which the V63 I'm getting obviously is not.

As I mentioned to the Breitsprechers previously, my timing in the search for a Jetglo V63 has been about the worst possible. However, I'm getting a very nice bass so I won't complain.

If variety is what you're after, I think it would be much easier to swap the 4003 for a like one of another color! Hang onto that V63!

Alvaro-- Not to worry. My 4003 Mapleglo isn't going anywhere. It was my first Ric instrument which my (now deceased) grandfather helped me to buy. Too much sentimental value there to let it go.

And the V63 will be let go *only* in trade for an equal condition V63 Jetglo. Year model doesn't matter to me, but the cosmetic condition *MUST* be the same. I can't afford to "trade down".

Did somebody mention my name? Jeff is right, I've still got my bass and don't plan on letting it go any time soon.... It's a keeper! Although I am mainly a guitar player, I am finding that the bass is a lot of fun; I only wish I had more time to practice on it--the sound is so deep and rich that I'm afraid it will keep the neighbors (or my own kids for that matter) awake if I wait until my evening free time.... Ahhhhh, but the kids go back to school soon!
