Thank god it's not lunchtime while I'm reading this . . .
Also, it basically looks like they took a Rick knock-off and tried to make it as much like a Peavey Cirrus as possible . . . why?! The Cirrus is not only a completely different bass, but it looks great too . . . there's no need whatsoever to change its look, especially not to a bass that is very nearly its opposite, tonewise.

Looking at that you realize how good a RIC bass is visually. It's a striking design that holds up well over time. Even the 4004's are beautiful. This faker is similar to a 4004 in it's features, but clearly the "design" is not there.

oh god that's freakin horrible. just goes to show how little changes here and there can make a beautiful design look uber tacky.

that bass is a work of art ... a non-aesthetic miss-shaped body and a fecal-burst color ... the Luthier is related to Picasso ...

Im surprised that this one is still on. After all the shape is unmistabablly a RIC, and skirting the trade mark here is splitting hairs IMO. I wonder why RIC can't move on this one. Is there really that much of a difference, or is it the local that is the issue?

I still think it has enough points of dissimilarity to make it a little tougher to interdict. There is a percentage and qualitative standard to being clean in issuing a Cease And Desist. My gut is that this one is not enough of a clear-cut clone on enough confusingly-similar trademark points...

This is quite an interesting one. A UK online-only brand, Wesley, sold this particular bass through Ebay last year, but subsequently withdrew it "due to a legal dispute with a major manufacturer". Their remaining stock was sold (not through Ebay) at a clearout price and the model withdrawn.
It's not exactly rocket science to work out who the "major manufacturer" was (unless Peavey had a go over the headstock!) so I'm surprised this current auction is still ongoing.

I think it would be embarrassing for Rickenbacker to recognize any resemblance to their work...
