Looks MUCH better with its brothers and sisters than round my neck Dave! To tell you folks the truth it was the one Rickenbacker which broke my rule - "if I buy it, I play it...alot!" ... I have to say it wasn't for me after several years of frowning at it, TRYING to join a band who would accept it (plus I have enough trouble navigating my 360's, let alone having a bass neck obscuring the view!!), and so really glad its gone to a double neck fan - anyway Dave sent me a funny Christmas Rickenbacker picture back in December, so he was always in the frame for it!!!!!!!!

You probably have to plan a whole weekend around changing strings huh Dave?
What do you call a group of 4080's like that anyway?
A clutch? Gaggle? Flock?

Simon, A double neck fan?
With regards to Dave, to say he's obsessed may be putting it lightly.

Nice buy Dave. You are the king of the doublenecks!
Simon, I seem remember reading in that article that you were a little unsure about this instrument. In that case it's always best in the hands of someone who will appreciate it. Plus, I would imagine that by selling it you can fund something else that's more up your street.
Oh, and I will hopefully be in touch about checking out your collection sometime in the not too distant future if it's still ok with you; I'm looking forward to it!

Congrats Dave, you sure have cornered the market!
One question though, I thought that 4080's had contrasting binding and guard/TRC - if the binding was white then the guards and TRC's were black.

In the case of Simon's 4080 Ilan you are correct. It originally had black plates. That is a good rule of thumb about the plates and binding being opposite, but not always. I have seen the trim and plates match, also I have seen some with checkered binding out of the factory in the 80's.

Hi Shaun - yes stick your head in here sometime - the 4080's gone, but there's a few other nice 'uns left!!!! (and its funding treats for my 4 nieces, first of whom is reaching 18 shortly and just passed her driving test, so its her who'll be going "up that street"!!... but, er, hopefully not up the pavement.......

Just a few Simon? : I doubt that somehow...)
Best of luck with the gift, and I hope it works out ok. And yes, keeping off the pavement is a good idea. First time I drove a car I nearly drove it into Fleetwood Dock, but that's another story...

Whoa Dave, that will look good upfront with your other 2 or 3 or 4 or how many? How about a Dbl. Neck Bass and 12, say a 12 and 8 string,4005-8/12 with Dbl. Binding. Yeah, Yeah....Nice Quiver of Ricks, from what I see you have an awesome collection..
