Not the confetti Rosetti?

Actually if you want an excellent shot ot the Cavern backup, it is on the latest DVD of the last tour when John Hamel is showing THE Hofner and the other is on the rack behind him. Check it out, it's a Cavern re-issue.
Rick bass fanatic. I own and play several professionally. I have a passion for the S models.

Did they ever use the NuSonic? Every now and then you see something about George playing the NuSonic on Rain and Paperback Writer, but that's obviously a ridiculous since the bass on those songs is clearly Paul's work. Maybe She Said She Said, since Paul's known to have walked out of the session?

Thanks Greg, those are great shots. Too bad Entwistle destroyed that bass in true Who style. That's a rare bass, you can see it's just a little later than McCartney's Cavern as it's got the Hofner 'toaster' pick-ups.

Wow, I've never seen that one before! They placed the Rickenbacker toaster pick-ups on the Hofner bass for the photo. It's quite a waste when you think about it, but what's done is done!

I date the 500/1 to about 1959-60.....it would have been cool to have been the guy that swept that stuff up at the end of the show, LOL....

That "Hofner" may have been an early Japanese clone, or an old Hofner scrapper. The pickups are definitely Rick Toasters, and the tuners look like full-size Schallers. The control panel is also cobbled up. The only things that look original Hofner to me are the tailpiece, body, and neck, but, some of the early Japanese clones were pretty good.

Yes John, I date that bass to 1960. My brain wasn't in gear when I wrote that. Paul, I think the Hofner pick-ups are in that pile in the case. For whatever reason somebody placed the Rickenacker pick-ups on the Hofner for the photo. I think it more than likely is a real Hofner with changed tuners and a few other problems. I suppose at the time it didn't seem like a terrible waste. You would think somebody hung on to this stuff and we'll see it auctioned one day.
