Well, yeah, but a lot of that "last second bidding" is automatic by the "proxy bid" feature. Let's say I was willing to go $2,000 for this. I would establish that as my maximum bid, and submit. If the current maximum proxy bid was $1,500, the feature would automatically outbid that maximum with mine (since mine is higher), but would only go to $1,550. If someone else came along the next minute and bid $1,750, ebay would automatically make my bid $1,800 (still under my maximum). Only if someone outbid my maximum would I get skunked, even in the last second. Interesting system. Boy, that quilted maple C II is pretty, though. Hmm. Could convert it to a five-string . . . .

it would make a beautiful 5 string ... and I already have the parts to do it ... I have the perfect gold bridge ....

Hmmm. We should talk. How much would you charge a swell fellow member of this grande groupe to do such work? Or are you saying YOU intend to be the winning bidder on this?

I am saying one of these days I intend on getting a 4004C and turning it into a 5 string ... I have the bridge and the nut ... I can get the extra tuner in a couple of days ... and that is a very pretty 4004cii on ebay now ... but it may go for more than I want to pay ...

How much would I charge to convert ... a reasonable parts and labor fee should cover it ... the problem is this particular bridge that I like to use is hard to find ... especially in gold ...

Great looking bass. Here are a couple of photos so we can still talk about it after it is gone from eBay. The grain is beautiful and the natural wood colors present a most striking contrast.

Don't worry, guys.... my husband told me he put the bid on it, and I told him I thought we should let one of you guys take this one--she's a real beauty! My 381 already satisfies all of my desires in the figured maple department, and we don't need another bass right now! I can't wait to see who takes this one home.... I hope it's one of you! ;)

I'm there Scott! I'm in the mix! I'm just dieing for that new Ric smell though - it's been 5+ years since - know what I mean.

If the price goes out of control, don't know what I'd do!

cheers

Hey John Hall ... You ought to make a few cool and unusual basses and sell them direct on ebay every once in a while

That would kick off a real bidfest.

Too much good business sense? Ya, like interupting the line by pulling people to make a new product makes sense. They are behind as it is. C'mon guys you all say this is your faveorite guitar yet some of you bag on JH and his company all the time. Remember, these really are individually hand crafted instrments, nay I say, works of art. If ya want something unusual, take your Ricky to a pro luthier and have at it but you can't expect them to do custom work. Apparently it takes a long time to train people to do things their way and they're not willing to slow it all down to bring in trainees.
