Welcome Scott, great intro pal!

First post and you set the place on fire!

Please get those photo's up. More is better.

I do not recall seeing a 67 for sale. Was 67 an off year for 4001's?

With 75th's & Shadow's at $5000, and a CS that hit $7200, I would think this old girl could give one chest pains.

To quote Three Dog Night, "Ely's Coming!".

(sorry Elys, can't help myself sometimes)

Gary, Rickenbacker was concentrating on the 4005's in '67. Consequently, there are very few 4001's.

There is a run of 4001S basses. I've seen a handful over the years, including the one I have and posted. They have all been originally FG.

Compared to the '67 4005 they are rare, especially those elusive Deluxes.

John A. You are very perceptive sir. My old boy came over on a boat after WWII, from England, after his shop got bombed off the planet. He never liked the sound of an airplane.

John B. Cool piece of info, which makes sense thank you.

Wints, why were the Deluxe models so elusive? I would think when presenting a bass to the likes of PM or CS, perhaps the Deluxe would be the way to go.

Gary,

I don't know. They are so thin on the ground between 64-67, you just don't see them...

It takes a lot of wood to build those big old tuna boats, maybe there wasn't much left for the rest in '67!

Tuna boat! "Now that's funny right there".

If I knew you could float one I'd ante up. I have never warmed up to the 4005, or hollow body sound. They look cool as a cookie, but boy are they strong money.

Tough enough to tuna a bass nevermind a boat. (ouch!)

Do you hear the hollowbody sound in my 4005WB? To me anyway, I don't think 4005s have a typical hollowbody bass sound, they just sound like a Rickenbacker, with a slightly different personality.

Keep in mind the quality of the audio on this clip, as it was just the mic on the video recorder or what ever it was that Tammy was using. Even so, the bass sounds like a Rick. Image

Uh Jeff, I'm afraid that video only convinced me that you can make any bass sound good, very nice playing & sound.

To be fair, I've only played a 4005 for a few minutes a couple hundred years ago. There was one at a GONG show at the local music store. I sat in for a couple songs. It sure did not sound like the one you were playing. Of course there is that little annoying talent issue as well.
