Herk, That is a genuine 4001S. The front pickup rout is factory. Who ever was doing the truss rod routes back then regularly over ran the pickup rout hence the larger pickguards back then. Completely original except for the pickup. Looks in excellent cond.
I'm with Andy on this one. At least $7500 perhaps more.

Cool bass, and IMHO it left the factory with two pickups and is not a later conversion.

I've kidded around about selling my Jazz Bass to get something before, but this one would be a good reason to do it.
