I wonder what the best recorded lead solo on a RIC guitar was?

It isn't flashy, but it is tasty. I'd nominate George Harrison's solo on "Please Please Me."

the lead on Please Please Me was a Gretsch...

I really don't want to get into this, except to say that this thread has taken a subterranean turn; I have plenty to say on both sides of the bass vs. guitar "debate" (it's no such thing), but suffice to say that Rick bassists and Rick guitarists are about as far apart, personality-wise, as I could imagine.

Generally speaking, of course.

(Happy, jangly--my ***...)

Really? You mean that lick wasn't played on the G pair of strings, but octaves on the e and G strings? Isn't that kind of doing it the hard way?

JimK

(Yeah, I realize I'm taking the thread in a completely different direction. Sorry)

1963... George didn't even own a 12 string at that point, but yes, he played it on what looks like the B and D or something, the videos out there show us how he did it, I've always done it differently

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qfzQyzZBd84

you can see him do it right at the end of the vide.
