Caress Of Steel was my first exposure to Rush. Back in the summer of '75 I was at my friends house and his older brother was blasting out "Fountains Of Lamneth" from the stereo. I was hooked after that.
Good spot on the black surround being on the 1 inch spaced bass. I always assumed he just switched on the same bass. I recall reading in the 1980 issue of Guitar Player where Geddy had a problem with breaking strings after converting to the Badass bridge. It was because the bridge was improperly located and was remedied shortly afterwards. (that is the same article where I discovered Jeff Berlin, as Geddy said he was "blown away" by him. I had to check out any player that blew Geddy away!)
Anyway, I love that album, it has a some kind of special feel no other Rush album has. Naive perhaps but special. "Bacchus Plateau" is a great popsong.
