I usually enjoy reading Amazon self-reviews of various things (mainly books and CD's) and someone else - like Gary - zeroed in on the poor sound, i.e. break-up at times from high level.
Recording "hot" has been done for some time, but it is also a bit of an art form.

I like it a lot myself. "Chaos..." was ok but it just seems kind of samey to me. Many of the songs have the same feel, which isn't like most McCartney albums. I like many of the songs on Chaos, but I just couldn't get into it.

This one has more variety and is fun. Chaos has some cool bits, but isn't really "fun". IMO.

OK, I guess I need to buy the thing myself, overdriven mics and all. I felt the same about "Chaos...", John. I liked some of the songs, but there was a major issue with "sameness mellowness" throughout the CD.

Like most, I enjoyed "Band on the Run" a lot, as he also did his best take of John and George's styles on a couple of songs. He'll likely never do another "Band on the Run" but there was never another "Gone with the Wind" for David O'Selznick (and the list goes on). Having that one classic is something to be proud of. McCartney had more than one over his whole career of course.

Of all his more "recent" CD's, I've always thought "Flowers In The Dirt" "Off The Ground" and Flaming Pie" were the best. "Chaos" was a bit too mellow for me. I'm interested in hearing this one.

Man, I tried. Honestly. I've now listened to this new album seven times through, and a couple of songs I've listened to a few more times than that.

The album is limp to me. I gotta stop giving this guy my cash. "Mama" is also the that I feel is the best one of the album, the one I've gone back to.

I have to be brutally honest. I adore Paul like most everyone else here, perhaps even more. I can't believe how lame the new album is. It is pure trash to my ears. His mastery of MELODY is absent. NO HOOKS either instrument or vocal wise. The songs all sound fragmented to me. I had a very difficult time listening through the whole CD. Some of the tunes were left over from Chaos, but lack the McCartney magic. His voice also bothers me because he sounds UNCOMFORTABLE singing passages that top his now lower range. The album is NON FLUID. It sounds like a very weak home demo to me. I actually feel embarrassed for him and listening to it makes me feel sad. If real Mcca lovers honestly can say that this is a good album, then I feel that you are not being honest. Chaos was much better than this one, and that is a stretch to even compare the two. WHERE ARE THE MELODIES? WHERE ARE THE HOOKS? I feel sad for him right now because the album IMO is garbage.

Sorry Rick. I have been away on family business. I love the album. I think it is better than Flowers in the Dirt and Off the Ground. Flaming Pie has Beautiful Night which may make it a bit better, perhaps. I think the album sounds great and his voice is great. I love that his voice sounds older because...oh yeah he is 64 years old. I love the bass playing whoever plays it. I enjoy the fragmented pieces. Kahne is known for that and on this album he does a better job of it than on Driving Rain. I am being very honest Ed. I am really enjoying this album. I don't think any of the tunes were left over from Chaos. Paul started recording with David Kahne in 2003 and then put the project on hold to work with Nigel on Chaos and Creation. Sorry you are embarrassed for him. But maybe if I'm proud of it that will cancel it out. I feel sad for him too, but not because of the album. Anyone at age 64 should have some peace in their life. He is no exception.

Someone mention Don't Get Around Much Anymore. I said that weeks ago, but I am getting past that and I think EPP is a very strong track.

BTW: See Your Sunshine IMO has everything that you say this album doesn't have. Hooks, melody, and great vocals.

If I have any complaints it is about the liner notes. A it hard to read. And for full lyrics go to paulmccartney.com. That was cheesy.

There isn't much on this CD which is stellar. It's tired. Not unlike the Stones, and some others, there comes a time to just hang it up. I'm sure it's difficult to put it all down and call it a a day. Maybe it would be better to leave people wanting more, instead of giving them less.

I disagree. The only thing that is important to me is that I enjoy it. Since I do, then it's all good for me. For everyone else, you can listen to Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road...again.
