These "potato head" eight-string basses were specially made and not a production item. Not sure how many were made, but likely just the two.

Entwistle's book says there were only the two solidbody prototypes, of course there were also a very few potato-head 4005 8-strings.

I know of 7 4005-8 that exist. Two of them were short scale.

That clip is from the Queens Park Rangers football ground gig in May 75.
I have a copy of it transfered from an NTSC VHS tape but I think if you shop around you might get one of the Japanese bootleg DVDs.They are very pricey at about £50 each and the show is on two discs!
If anyone on the forum wants a copy of mine (its all on one disc) please feel free to get in touch.........going on holiday for two weeks so bear with me.
The mix varies but the solo on Ritual is great and the quality is quite good for a tape conversion.I advertised in Mojo magazine several years ago for a copy and a guy in the States sent me the tape for free! Least I can do is pass on the favour.
The recording was for BBCs The Old Grey Whistle Test TV programme. Good job they didnt come to Stoke City football ground the following week...the show was washed out by rain and finished halfway through YES set.
If I am not mistaken Chris played Going For The One on that bass too.
Theres a good photo of Entwistles 8 string in the John Entwistle collection book.

Pardon me, pal, I was referring to that headstock. I had never seen one of those so I gave it a WTH. I will a...nevermind.

Yeah, he used that bass on Roundabout and Going for the One before he got the Ranney 8.

"A vid of Tempus Fugit he was using I believe the Mouradian (sp?)"

He used an Electra bass with built-in-effects on "Tempus Fugit" (also on "Cinema", "Leave It" and "City Of Love").

The first pics of the 4008 I've seen were from the '74 leg of "Topographic Oceans" tour. Natural Jazz Bass which gets a bit usage on the Queenspark gig emerged at that time too.
