Don't remember how I got here, but I immediately offended JH and brought many a thread to a screeching halt.

But I've learned a ton, and as a direct result of being here, I now own eight Ricks with two on the way, well probably more.

This is the only forum I visit (with the exception of the corporate site, sometimes), because there is no flaming or bad attituding going on. It's nice to visit this civil place.

I've always enjoyed Rick basses, and came upon the forum through a link on Mike Park's site I believe.

Could've been Bjorn's site as well.

I found this place through a GOOGLE search for "Chris Squire Rickenbacker" and I somehow landed on the Registration page! Funny thing is, I was never able to get her registered! LOL!

I then hit a link and it brought me to the forum. I had only posted once or twice on the Alembic forum LONG AGO so I really didn't know what a "forum" was all about. I just wanted to see if I could find other CS owners!

I believe Jeff Scott was my welcome person. My mind is mush, but I'm almost positive of that.

There is SO much good on this forum, I don't know where to begin. What I appreciate MOST is no matter how STUPID the question, how limited my playing abilities, ANYTHING about how little I know about the length and breadth of this addiction we all share, everyone has treated me with kindness....and believe me, I've asked some STUPID questions!

Thanks everyone!

Wow, I just noticed, this is post 1999....where has the time gone?

I had heard of and located a few times this place while nerfing around the company Rick forum over the past couple years. Never really did make any attempt to read much here or join up. But a few months ago I had a heads up from Jeff Rath on Charly Goehring's bass being for sale (and if I'd already been here and paid attention, I'd have known the, eh?). Charly and I conversed a bit by e-mail about the bass and he is close enough to me for a leisurely drive there and back in a day.

Being the slightly paranoid sort that I am about large amounts of cash and guitars and being away from home, I confess to googling Charly to see just what kind of a character I was meeting up with. Needless to say, he popped up in here a bit and I read a bunch of the forum while getting to know more about Charly. This forum is responsible for calming all of my concerns about meeting someone I did not know with money in my pocket. Certainly, he turned out to be exactly the kind of person I expected when reading his words here and others replying to him. I imagine he had to display the greater amount of trust allowing some long haired freak from Vegas into his home a for a few minutes. Image

And from there it just seemed a good place to stay. I'm still just blending my way in and still quite the newbie here. But I like the people and the patience and advice that's been given on a recent neck problem has been such a welcome change to the more vile forums I usually frequent for entertainment.

So there it is. The forum was a research project for me that became a place for me to rest a while.

I found the forum on Google. My first post, I think, was about the possibility of modifying the fifth knob on a 330 into a Gibson-style varitone switch. My idea didn't really get a great response to be honest. But now I've seen the light and understand the value of the mysterious fifth knob. Thank you RickResource Forum!

Incidentally I think I remember Paul W's first post on the forum because he'd just purchased a guitar that I'd been drooling over but couldn't afford at the time. And I have a way to go before I catch up with him, that's for sure!

I'm spank new here, having registered just this week. I first learned of this forum via the RIC Corporate forum and had popped in on occasion just to read up on specific info. Finally, I decided to join up and be an active participant. I've been playing since the mid '70s & never bought my first Rick until this past January; I now have three! Yeah, I know, "What took ya so long??" ;)

I think I found this forum via a link from Mike Park's site.

I learned more in the first two weeks browsing than I had known by owning a Rick bass for almost 20 years!

There's still plenty to learn, & this is still the most open, encouraging place on the net that I've found.
I'm not one for joining things often, but the people who make up this place certainly make it worthwhile!

Thanks to all.

I don't remember exactly how I got here. I'm assuming that I took a wrong turn in one of them series of tubes on that interweb of internets they call the information super highway or education frontage road, or intellectual off-ramp or entertainment cul du sac or whatever these kids call it these days.

I know I'd seen the site years before registering. I found the wonderful camaraderie here delightful and a little scary. I've been here a while now, but I still sometimes feel like I'm the last guy to arrive at a party where everyone else knows each other. I'm kind of a hermit, so this is not a completely unique experience.

I myself was preparing for the end-times, which I was SURE were upon us, after Evil Bob's Rickenbacker Planet was shut down on the 'net. I thought for sure that there would never be as good a Rickenbacker site as that, ever, and I was pretty bummed. Then I stumbled upon this place thru alt.guitar.rickenbacker, I believe, and I wasted little time checking it out. This place absolutely blows away the Evil Bob site for Rickenbacker information, pictures and history, although it lacks Evil Bob's exhaustive proclamations about his philosophy of life, culture, music, etc., etc. Evil Bob was quite a character, although I don't think he has ever reappeared in the Rickenbacker realm, and I am very grateful for Peter's outstanding work in making this place what it is today. But I never got the chance to thank Evil Bob, and I wonder what became of his '72 Mapleglo 4001...Maybe he'd like to sell it to me...Anyhoo, Peter THANK YOU, you are the BEST!!!

Back in my high school days, I wanted to learn to play the bass because my dad played when he was younger (olympic white pre-CBS jazz bass ... wish we still had that one!). We looked around for a good starter bass and ended up in the basement of a "local legend" guitar player who had a couple basses to sell. We opted against the really cheapo model and went with a slightly-less-cheapo Ibanez 4001 copy (I know, heresy, but I was 15, what did I know?). I played all through college and some in grad school and always assumed I was getting basically a real Rickenbacker tone.

Around the new year this year I found myself in an interesting situation: in need of a new hobby with some money to spend (if you remember those news stories about how online poker is rigged and nobody ever wins -- they were wrong). I earmarked some of the cash for a true 4001; a bit of a luxury item for someone who wasn't playing much, but it seemed to me they hold value well so there wasn't much downside.

I did my research, figured out exactly what I wanted, searched, waited, searched some more, and found it on eBay. Near the end of the auction I was doing my typically paranoid google searches to make sure the auction was on the up and up ... and found a thread here devoted to the bass I'd just won. So I signed up, said hey, and took it from there. Got a pretty decent welcome, but then, it's a pretty weird way to join a forum. Also, Mr. Hall himself advised that I should keep the Rickanez, which was part of an interesting thread.

Now I have a second true Ric (which also had its own thread that I did not start -- weird trend), and I'm playing a lot more. I'm doing a mini-tour of the Midwest with a sweet band at the end of the month and starting a solo recording project (bass and vocals only) this weekend.

Oh, also, I can't ever answer questions with short answers, and I'm perfectly willing to wax reminiscent about events that occurred a mere four months ago.

I think I discovered it when I was making an effort to register my Rick's. I found the Registration page and by happenstance, I discovered the Forum. I still haven't gotten back to the Registration site. It will be three years ago, and as I have discovered, three years ago, tomorrow, exactly.
