Mike, have you taken a picture of under the pickguard you could post here?

You will all excuse my ignorance, but what was/is that adhesive tape used for? I certainly have never used it on the few pickguards I've fashioned so far for some of my Ricks.

Again: many thanks you you folks who have(again) helped me out here.
My camera is currently on loan to my brother; as soon as I can I'll post pics.
I will undoubtedly have more questions regarding this bass.
John, under the guard, in the cavity, under the finish, in pencil, is
"4001-J",
"ME-xxxx" (serial no),
a signature of "Jose Luiz",
and another signature, very hard to tell, but it looks like "M.D. August"

The masking tape does a couple of things. Of them, the thing I see most valuable is that the pots bite in and it keeps the pots from spinning on the smooth plastic.

Probably Mark Arnquist.

Jeff, could be. Hard to read exactly, but that's probably it.

That's Arnquist for sure. He was in my Dec 72.

Mike, the pickguard on my bass is missing one screw hole but underneath there is a screw hole. It is original. It's probably the most ill fitting pickguard ever to leave the factory. It overlaps the pickup surround by a couple of mils.

Well, Gerry that lends credibility to mine, doesn't it. I'm almost positive mine "is" original after all the input from here.
But what a gorgeous bass you have there!

That 4001 is definitely FUBAR.
