Congrats Sean, that's a very cool 4003!
I also agree with putting on the black vintage knobs.

I know the term 'bad ***' has already been used, but I'd like to say it's bad ***.

Thanks y'all.

My rig wasn't handy so I took it to Bass Emporium and plugged it in. Man, these pickups are HAWT. Great tone out of this and as much as I hate to say it, it sounds better than my older ones. It does seem a bit heavier though. Maybe it's my imagination.

All that being said, I am thinking of hotrodding my others with new pups.

As far as the vintage knobs, I don't know. I really love the "regular" knobs, but yeah, none more black is my motto, eh? Maybe I'll check it out.

FWIW, Blackstars have "regular" silver-top knobs.

I wouldn't change a thing in that bass. Keep it 100% original.

By the way, thanks to Graham for posting the link to the Japanese site. Otherwise, I would have never seen this bass.

Sean, are you sure it is an actual 2004? Supposedly (and there are no "absolutes"), black trim (binding and hardware) were discontinued in 2002. That said, there have been some basses produced in the early 00's for special order to Japan with checker binding, so that could be an explanation. Anyway, "none more black."

Paul, according to the jackplate, it's a 2004.

That bass looks great! Where did you get it? I found a beautiful Fireglo 4003S/8 at TC Gakki in Tokyo, but then I see the note on their web page - ///// We have stoped taking orders from overseas now, apologize all the inconveniences. ///// - SO, I found a guy to broker the deal for me at $1800 delivered to my door, and by the time we worked it out it was GONE! Arghhhh.... It had been up for months.... Oh well.
Anyway, again, beautiful bass!
