Did he measure from the bridge or the nut? You need the measurement from the nut to the 12th to know what it is supposed to be.

If you want questions answered on Gibson basses, try the Dudepit, the Gibson forum over there is really good, they know their stuff. I never heard of a 34 scale Gibson made with that neck but you never know and they will know for sure over there, they are Gibson nuts for the most part, they love their Gibsons as much as we love our Rics.

Charlie, I just took a look and read what you wrote at the Dudepit, your bass has to be a 34" long scale bass if it measures 17" from the nut to the 12th fret, read my post over there if you get a chance. I've never heard of that before but that doesn't mean they didn't make them like that. 17 and 17 = 34 and the 12th fret is right at the second harmonic of the strings, which is exactly half the length.

Yup, saw it over there. It had a two point bridge on it, and we will put the three point in the same spot. Not a real big deal to me. The big thins was I didn't want the pup up against the neck. Should be a tad brighter than the older ones.

Oh yeah? When did you guys start? Dave seems to have dropped off the end of the earth. He used to do the Gibson forum over there also. I guess that shows how often I've been there lately, I saw the posting rules under his name and just assumed he still moderated it.
I've heard that the pickup itself is what gives these things their characteristic sound, moving them didn't really change it very much, they're wound to something like 25K. Mine is all boom when I solo the neck pickup.

Me like go boom! I can't wait to plug it in to the SVT! I'm getting Chromes put on it. I am spoiled now and can't abide any other string. I did put tape wounds on the Pace bass as it was all nasally with metal.

I put Chromes on my new Thunderbird and they sound good although the D was a little dead when I got them.
