Aside from wasting a bit of my time, it wasn't that big of a deal as no money was exchanged. That's what struck me as a bit strange. Why would the seller agree to let me pick up and pay for the bass in person if they never had the bass in the first place, (and it was indeed a scam)?

I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of folks who ask a "suspect" or questionable seller if they can see or pick an item up in-person are doing it just to see if it is a legit auction. Scam sellers know by now to always say yes, but they don't expect 95% of the people to ever do it - possibly because 95% of the people relax after they hear the seller say yes and then have it shipped to them after all following payment being sent.

Heck, just read this Forum and you will see us all recommending that "legit test" for eBay auctions to each other Image

One thing's for certain - As we find more ways to ferret out the scam auctions, the scammers will find more ways to try and scam us.

The auction has been cancelled by the bay and the user is no longer registered. That was a good catch before someone gets defrauded.

Well, tell me what you think now. I have been emailing this guy about the bass and he just sent me his name and address to where the money order should be sent. The address is in London UK. So now what is the story?

Brian, it is still a scam. That won't change in a week's time or a month's time...

Don't get me wrong. I have no intention of purchasing the bass. I would have thought that the scam would have asked for a wire transfer. That is why I threw it out there.

I just emailed him to tell him I will meet him at that address to bring the payment and take delivery of the bass. We'll see what he/she says next.
