Better the others should stick to Jacksons, Ibanezs etc., then you can be unique!

Well, I've played my rics through a Peavey 5150, being a VanHalen fan too. And it sounds awesome. Heavy, and thick, but with good definition.

Electric guitars is electric guitars. Amp on 10 guitar on 10, who gives a penny if it has a short tenon, long tenon, or is hollow or solid, Rickenbacker, Fender, Gibson or the knock off from deep dark China.
And then, the drummer comes in and soon thereafter the screamin-demon (sorry, the "singer") flexes his/her throat.

I have been playing metal on Rickenbackers for years, so this is really nothing new. Granted, playing Yngwie Malmseteen shred licks on a fireglo Rick 360 will definitely raise eyebrows, but at the end of the gig, the only thing people will truly care about is the music, not necessarily what gutiars are used to make it.
A more famous instance of an unusual choice for a hard rock/ heavy metal guitar is Ted Nugent's use of a Gibson Byrdland. The Byrdland is an upscale jazz guitar, but yet Nugent has found a way to make it work for HIS style of music. I don't see why the same thing couldn't be done with a Rickenbacker.

My new 650D Dakota can totally shred. It doesn't look too metal, but the tone of the guitar when used with really high gain is pretty incredible. On the ad though, I think that Ric's classy, suttle ads are perfect for any guitar magazine. They don't jump out at you, but I'm sure they introduce many young kids to Ric's that would normally not traditionally see them used in their favorite type of music. Guitar World, although seemingly slanted toward "teen shredders" usually has some cool gear reviews, tech advice, and interviews with all kinds of musicians. Ric should be commended for getting the word out on there products, however subtly, to show "teen shredders" that there is more to choose from than Ibanez, Jackson, and Gibson even. I read Guitar World and it always makes me smile when I see a Ric ad.

I read about someone using a 650D for progressive metal. There are many others for sure, with probably the whole Rickenbacker range, it's just that not everyone is so well known.

There were plenty of shredder type guitarists that came into the RIC booth at the NAMM show last weekend. When they trying out the guitars, they seemed to be quite pleased with how the guitars played and what they heard as did the bassists trying out the basses.
