Don't exactly know why I took this photo last summer except for the fact that "these are a few of my favorite things." Now I've got someplace to show it!!

1970 Mercedes 280 SL
1969 370 Burgundyglo
2006 360 Blueburst

Man I'd love a '70-'71 SL. Been watching them a few years. Prices are steadily rising! Looks like I'll only be looking.

Here is my '74 Fireglo 4001 next to my '05 Inferno Red Dodge Magnum RT.

Also(non-Rick content warning)here is my '06 Inca Silver Fender Precision next to my wife's '03 silver Toyota Corolla.

I can't resist the analogy between these cars & basses:
The P-Bass & the Corolla are the more "pedestrian" and "practical" pair, and I love them both dearly...BUT the Rick & the Magnum are MUCH more fun to play & drive!

Cool topic BTW...

It's automatic with factory air. 65,000 documented miles. Everything except the windshield is original.

Beautiful...

I'm doubt if I'll ever have an anthracite grey bass,

but it does look better on the car.

In keeping with my tradition of never paying more for a car than a guitar...yes, you read that right, is there better value for money today than the W116?
I've paid more for dinners out in London than what this cost.

There is not a rattle or squeak from this 30+ year old car, and gets the "nod" at traffic lights in all parts of town.

Pity they don't make them like that any more...

Hey Wints,

NICE WHEELS! I love those older ones!

When I was car shopping for my son, I ALMOST bought him a 1985 500SEL. What a monster! BUT, a college kid getting 10 MPG with SUPER ONLY fuel, kinda killed it for me. He REALLY wanted that car. It drove like nothing else I've ever been in! But, the mechanic gave it a "thumbs down" for lower end noise that I didn't even hear Image

I just looked at a 450 SEL yesterday. In fact, it was metallic gold, almost the same color as the 4003 GOLD COY I listed in the for sale section yesterday. I had a fleeting thought, what a cool pair they would make.

But, then I thought, if I want to keep the pair I do have, I'd better not! The Mrs. would kill me for sure! Image

P.S.
Hey Andy, you may not credit this, but a good friend of mine bought a used (natch!) top-condition 1970 Mercedes just like that one locally a couple years back for a ridiculously low sum. Once in a while I get to ride on it and man, I can tell you people's heads do not turn - they swivel! Quite a cool car. But I remain a sucker for...Image
