Ric humbucker pickups are wired in series ... like a p-bass pickup ... most humbuckers are wired parallel ... especially active systems ...

if you put series humbuckers in a Wal it would not have the Wal sound ...

Back in the 80's when I was a Wal endorsee, I always had the quiet notion to just take everything out of the Wal and just install it en masse in a 4001 body. I loved the Wal, but I missed the feel and balance of the 4001's. I didn't do it for many reasons, not least of which was I didn't have a 4001 to put it all in, and I didn't want to **** off two companies simultaneously. The Walenbacker is still an idea that creeps back to me even after 25 odd years. Now I'm free to annoy whomever I please, it may still become a reality. I just want to hear that 10db active boost on my 4001s....

Funny you should say that Gareth. Having been a huge fan of Leigh Gorman of Bow Wow Wow for most of my playing life, I enquired many years ago about buying a set of Wal pickups/electronics to put in my Ric. I didn't go through with it either (money reasons mainly) but I do wonder how it would have turned out. I remember at the time Wal were happy to sell you the stuff.
