oh.

That open G tuning does have a great sound to it. 'Brown Sugar' with that tuning sounds so good, and is pretty easy to play.

Yep, many Stones songs from that era will suddenly "sound correct" once you figure them out in open G.

I agree with all the above!

Can't wait to try this. Every time I learn--on this forum!---that a song is actually played in an alternate tuning, it's like a kick in the head. All those years of playing it too hard...

I just realized the wicked guitar part in The Faces' "Stay With Me" is also in Open G. Fun to try, but maybe not so easy as Ron Wood makes it seem...

I wouldn't say that playing WH in open G is much easier, as some of the chords are a bit tricky, but the sound is dead on.

I'm not near a guitar. How do you play the B minor chord in Open G? ("Childhood living...") I can't picture it. That's probably one of the less easy, counterintuitive chordings...

At the bottom of the page is this guy's version of WH in open G. The chord charts are a bit hard to read--they're rotated 90 degrees CCW--and you need to remember that the 1st string in his charts is high D and the 6th string is low D. The voicings sound good. JB--maybe you can try this and tell us if these are what you're using.

I've always played this song like a foofer--straight chord forms, standard tuning. This tuning really opens it up.

Well, the way it's played on this recording isn't really straightforward B minor. The tab would look like this:

D---0------
B ---0------
G---0------
D---4------
G---4------
D----------

This is a really strange chord - sort of just an unresolving Bmsus4, unless i'm missing something obvious. Jdog?

I'm kinda sorta picturing it, I think. These variations are usually the best part about alternate tunings--really strange, wonderfully dissonant chords. Thanks John and Paul. And George and Ringo.

Looks like a good site, Paul. A little weird on the layout, but he presents his lessons clearly...which is an unfortunate rarity on the internet.
