I waited around a year to get my C64. But I didn't mind the wait at all since I paid installments on it while it was being built. To my knowledge, RIC dosen't give timeframes on orders to dealers. And to ask the full price up front before ordering dosen't sound right either. Most will ask for a deposit only AFAIK.

Sometimes you wonder why the world works the way it does. Tomorrow I'm going to put my 4003 LH MG on ebay. It's not brand new, but it's in perfect condition with no chips, nicks or scratches. It'a 2004 ( 04 41919 ). It doesn't have walnut wings or the push-pull knob but it's still a beauty. I've never really been much of a bass player. I guess I just bought it because it was so rare. It's just sat in my closet for a year and a half and I've decided to sell it. I'll still have six Rick guitars to keep me company.

I think I have been played, I think the dealer would like to sell the bass outright and make a whole lot more money. You know Brian I think you hit the nail on the head. I have called my dealer and if that ric bass hit next week, Im driving to get it, I may have to get postal on their butt. LOL

I think that a 27 month wait is nuts and dont blame you for being dicouraged.
I always wanted a Ric since I first started playing bass (79) but played off and on over the years and wasnt really a priority. in 2000 I walked into a music store with a friend and there was a Ric hanging on the wall, I played it for 5 minutes and asked to have a new one ordered.
when the guy said it would take six months I thought he was crazy. I then found out this was how it is. I got real lucky I guess and got mine in 3 months. it still smelled like paint when I opened the box....
in anycase I know how you feel about a new Ric as I could have snagged that used one off the wall but didnt. you have options--Brian is selling one and you can send out one of your Rics that you said was in bad shape to get fixed up with that 1500 bucks.....there are a few people here who do this so I have read.

If that dealer is jerking you around, he's got a lot more at stake than he realizes!
Who in their right mind would want to anger everyone here for a couple of hundred bucks (besides CME, who have already done it)?

I thought from reading some other posts that the folks at RIC had mentioned this bass specifically and said it was supposed to be done by now. I also thought I had seen things that said they weren't making left handed instruments right now.
I hope it all works out for you, Mitch, and you'll be able to get your long awaited grail. I understand your feelings, though. I've been really looking at G&Ls lately waiting on my 4004 BBR. Fortunately I haven't been put in your situation where I needed something and had to make a decision.
Good luck on your gigs and keep in touch!

Grendel, certainly there's something we could do to get at least one of your existing Ricks fixed up. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Grendel, I think I remember when you ordered that. Has it been that long? The first thing I'd be mad at is the dealer taking ALL of your money. If you put that money in the market you'd have made some good money. Even in a savings account you'd have made interest. For a dealer to take the FULL amount instead of a deposit isn't right. When I order the DCM I only put $50 down. I can see a dealer maybe wanting upwards of a third down, maybe half, but even at that it's too much. If for some reason you skip out, it's still a RIC, and they can still sell it. Lefty or not. I'd say find a new dealer.

I agree. That smells wrong. Maybe you should tell us who it is, so we can avoid the same troubles. I ordered my 4004Cii from Dave's Guitars, in WI, because I bought a Ric from them at a guitar show last year. They only wanted 10% down, and I may be waiting for a while yet, but it will be worth the wait, I'm sure. Hope you work this all out, good luck.

Yes a few things seem odd...
When I ordered my 650 Dakota I was asked to put 25% down.
And with the feature on the RIC site you can see who's getting new gear shipped to them, so you can try and cherry pick new inventory going out.
I would report that dealer to RIC. Seems like they might be violating some of the dealer agreement. It sometimes does take a while for an ordered Rick to arrive, but it sounds like you've been jerked around far too much.

Hey Grendal,
I'm sorry to hear you cancelled your order. I can only agree with has already been written here. Your dealer should have NEVER have required you to pay in full.
Here is one on Ebay, looks really clean.

I don't know what your dealings were with the factory, but I have read a few posts on the RIC site that they were talking to you about it.
I just hope JH or Ben didn't have something "special" in store for you. Try to keep your order in, you will never regret it.
Best of luck in whatever you decide!

I talked to the dealer late yesterday and the Ric bass is still on order. The dealer did not cancel it. Their is a lot of things surrounding this order that I'm unable to talk about and lets just keep it at that. The owner assures me he was told by Ric another 60 to 90 days. I did find out the Warrior bass is used and a consignment piece. If the Ric was to come in this week I will go get it and return the warrior as soon as UPS gets it here no matter what. I feel very violated at the moment if you know what I mean. I really dont know what to believe. Thanks for all your support, if I can work to mess out, it will be done.

Mitchell, call Kenny @ Rickenbacker customer service..(714) 545-5574 ..he is very helpful and give you a straight-up answer as to why it should take so long for your Bass. Or Brian's lefty Bass on Ebay would be perfect and a cost savings to you....

Thanks for saying that Dale! It would also be pretty simple to drop in a right handed bridge and flip the nut around for right handed stringing.

Thats a shame, Grendel. I remember when you ordered that bass. I had never heard if you recieved it or not and am really surprised that you haven't gotten it yet. Maybe things will work out well for you in the end. I hope so.
