Great database, Erik! The $7,000 Shadow was relisted by the same seller and sold for a more realistic price.

Mine is insured for $2,650 which I think is close to its real market value.

I picked one up a few years ago for $1,800 on E-bay; didn't realize what I had bought until I did some research on these forums. It came with Bartolinis which I replaced with hi-gains. Great instrument that I will never sell!

I have a serial # list for Shadows...
Erik...do you have a corresponding list of ser#'s along with your sale dates and prices? I believe a majority of your list are "repeat" sales of the same basses....

I saw the Shadow today. It's in "good" condition - a few scapes and bumps - and a bit of corrosion on the bridge pickup surround. Case doesn't appear to be original and there's no certificate (these came with a certificate, correct?). Original asking price was $3000, now down to $2500 firm. It really did play nicely which is why I'm still mulling it over at that price. After looking at that Ebay history, I'm having real trouble trying to determine it's true value. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Shadows don't have certificates. I think 2500 is in line with other RIC basses maybe under valued but I don't think the Shadow will ever have the same status of other collectables like the Annie, Blackstar, Squire even though there are suppose to be less made. They are great playing basses. If you don't buy it please let me know. I guess only time will tell.

Sadly, I can remember when they used to go for $1200 or so - I even passed on one for $1295 in a local shop that had it labeled as a "Blackstar" (yes, still kicking myself). Things have changed, and $2000-$2500 is right on the money for these now, Steve.
They have great necks, and you gotta love the checkered binding and the black dots against the light rosewood fretboard.

Whatever the price or rarity, these are IMHO the best looking Ric basses ever. Absolutely stunning.

Don't know what all the fuss is about, they're only black.

Jim, I'm thinking about re-finishing mine Fireglo. Then it will be a burning shadow!

Thanks for the input everyone. I may end up going for it as the price seems reasonable and it's a great playing bass. I'm still surprised that their value isn't more considering only 50-60 units were produced!
