If memory serves me correctly only five were ever made but the effect was very subtle. RIC went with Amber Fireglo instead.

I think a few of them made it out the door. John Hall said they experimented with AMG when they were doing the AFG finishes.

They didnt like the results ( to yellowish), so they scrapped the idea.

I think the word "nonexistant" (used to describe the color) is nonexistent.

How can a color be nonexistent, when it's staring us right in the face in their listing?

I kind of doubt there's anything new for '08, but I hope that at some point in the near future they bring back five string 4004s and build that 4004 8-stringer that's been mentioned.
It would also be nifty if they started building the 380L again, because I would really love to buy one someday.

Another thing I'd like to see is a piezo bass bridge that's blendable into the regular treble/bass mix. (maybe sound cool on an 8-stringer!) But, I guess everybody has their pipe dreams.

I know it will never happen, but I'm voting for Ruby for a color of the year anyway. A store tried to order a 360-12 WB in Ruby for me in 1987, and it never arrived. I think they were already discontinued by then.

Ooh, those are pretty in that finish. I think you could have bought one of those on Ebay earlier this year. It was either Ruby or Burgandyglo, I can't remember which. It listed 2x.

Ruby (no "Glo", as Ben Affleck says...) must have been a bugger to paint in a production situation... silver, highly-reflective base coat, and coat after coat of transparent (often called "Candy Apple") red, applied quite evenly over a surface that's a combination of odd nooks and crannies and broad sweeping flat planes. I've got three of these coming up and hoo, boy, I'm at the gym every morning getting ready.

Two of the three were originally Ruby, and the colors are the same, but one has quite a few coats less that the other. So we have one that's kind of a light CAR, and the other which is bordering on a wine color. We've seen this with BG, although BG has a wood base to it, so it's more forgiving to spray.

I think white would be nice.

Out of all the colors I spray in my own refinishes, white is one of the toughest, and I suspect that it is the same for RIC. I spray in a completely enclosed booth; theoretically all air entering is filtered for dust. The walls and floor of my booth are refinished every four months for cleanliness' sake. I don't, however, "wet down" the floor each time I spray; it's messy and bumps the humidity up too high for urethanes.

I blow myself off with an air hose and never wear clothing with loose fibers or lint, like a sweater, into the booth.

Still, I get the occasional dust mote or kinky fiber in either the color coat (easy to remedy once it's dry--in seconds, usually...just brush it off and go on painting) or varnish. The junk-in-varnish thing is tougher...it must be picked out with a pair of needle-point tweezers and a very steady hand while the guitar or bass hangs. There's usually a tiny mark, which on any color but white, is invisible. On white, ANY dust in either the color coat or varnish (and varnish gets 10-12 coats--that's 10-12 opportunities for Murphy the Lint Dropper to visit...)shows up, immediately and necessitates stopping everything and sometimes waiting a day to remove it from the semi-cured paint.

RIC has open-faced booths. I would imagine white would be nightmarish to paint in one of these. It also means stopping everything while the color switch-over is made; guns must be absolutely clean, no metallic or pearl in the air (a problem with ANY solid finish, especially darks like JG), and cleanliness must be at an almost impractical level.

I would still vote for pearlescent white, maybe with pearloid pickguards--it would look terrific on a 360 or 381.

Or perhaps pearlescent orange--I would love to see a Ric in that color.

Paul, would a pearlescent white be as difficult to spray as a solid white finish?
