3 - this is the original and best.
2 - a fair copy. think his dad is an actor.
4 - a minor UK hit in 1980 from the Bradford lads.
1 - do not like this at all. (far too slow)

I have always loved the Beatles version, and was suprised that it was not included on the Anthology series.

Hey guys,

First time post, long time reader. Big fan of Bobby Vee and The Searchers....in fact, some of you may remember me on Youtube under the name "BobbyVeeFan", I had well over 300 vids uploaded until they kicked me off for infringing copyright. Anyway, here are my choices...

Version 3 (Original is always the best!)
Version 1 (Not too bad, big hit for this crooner in 1968)
Version 2 (OK, but not much feeling put into this cover)
Version 4 (Hate it!!)

Good choice, Roy Image

3 - The original and a classic!
2 - So so......
4 - Too slow, don't like the vocals much but some nice jangly guitar there.
1 - Erk!! Too slow!

Co-writer Carole King did a great version also.

Not directed at anyone in particular but I thought we weren't supposed to give any hints?

I think that's the case with the BFTP threads, Bob...... they are guessing games. In these ones I believe Roy is just asking us to rank them.

Yeah but if someone (and I've been guilty as well) names one of them as the original, that can slant things a little too maybe?

Yes I suppose it can Bob, reason I don't name versions initially is to try to remove pre-conceived notions, if you get the drift.

With the BFTP it is a fine line between some degree of difficulty and too easy.

All of us could post tracks by acts no one has heard of, but if people have a run of not getting any right they lose interest.

Here's an amusing tale, when I first started these over 18 month ago, before doing it on here, there were quite a few players from another forum I sometimes participate in.

I posted an early recording by some one very well known, one person stated on the forum "I have no idea who this is but it's terrible, I hate this style of singing"

It just happened to be Neil Diamond and said person claimed to be one of his biggest fans, when I gave answer it was actually queried!!!.

Person stopped playing a week later stating did not have time to play.

Thanks to all who voted best response to date.

Version 1 was Bobby Vinton
Version 2 " Gary Lewis & The Playboys
Version 3 " Bobby Vee
Version 4 " Smokie

result
as voted by you based on 4 points for a I, 3 for a 2 etc. average of all points achieved

Bobby Vee 3.73
Smokie 2.13
Gary Lewis 2.13 (Smokie higher due to 2 people choosing as their favourite, no one chose GL as favourite)
Bobby Vinton 2

Still no version, on any of the 8 posted, has achieved the overall 4 points (i.e it was everybody's favourite)

Methinks to achieve a 100 % favourite, the other versions should be really horrible.
Person stopped playing a week later stating did not have time to play.

Ah, that's so nice! Image I wish i could find a version of any song by one of my favorite artists which i'd call horrible... even "Almost Saturday night" as done by the Searchers isn't that bad.
Now if only i knew # 4 was Smokie...
PS: why does spell-checker highlight "favourite"?!
