Version 4 was who?! Strange that for some reason, i haven't saved it on my PC, so i cannot even re-listen... oh well, on previous BOTV i've voted for Smokie as best version, so no problem...
The Jeans' was the only version i've heard before, so it wasn't a hard choice. Image

Really embarrassed I placed merseybeat bands at only 3&4. Please don't tell my friends!!

The version by the Guess Who was the one I bought in the 60s (and still have it), even though I live in the UK. That is why I voted for it as my favourite. I decided it was better then Johnny Kidd's version at that time.

I knew that JK&Pirates own the original here, but was surprised to learn it was in the contest! I missed badly concerning ver. 2, being Swinging Blue Jeans. I thought it was Fleetwood Mac with Jeremy Spencer singing! Thought it was his voice surely, and could also hear the FM guitar sound in the breaks. You learn as you live! When is this recording from (SBJ), Roy? Was Terry Sylvester with them then? I think all four versions are great!

Einar: notes from the compilation i have says the following: "Recorded: February 14 1964. From EP "Shake with the Swinging Blue Jeans", April 3 1964."

Thank you! Interesting it's that early. Pretty mature stuff. (But the SBJ members were a bit older than most contemporary beat groups, weren't they. Skiffle background etc.)

Hey, where am I?? I'm gone for a couple of days and the whole world changed!
You're right Roy, I did chuckle, I never would have guessed something from the 60's for The Swinging Bluejeans version. The JK and the Pirates sounded different to me, I've only heard it a few times. All great bands though, I wonder how many versions of this song exist?

I noticed that the Guess Who's version is being used for an advert on TV right now.
