From 72 thru 76 4000 Basses with set necks had no Walnut wings...I worked in the wood shop those years..I don't recall ever seeing that nice of figured Maple being put on a 4000. The 4000 necks were nothing more than a 4001 neck that was band sawed off at the end and fitted to a 4000 body. We also used Shedua for the skunk stripe, this one appears to be Walnut which we never used, otherwise a beautiful bass, maybe custom made by a Euro Luthier?

Interesting point Dale.
It reminded me of the stunning maple of the bottom 4002 here.

Well Dale, I looked at bass in Detail and it had everything that would make it a genuine rick. Nothing that would point otherwise.
Maybe this one was an employee special, a one-off.
